Nenana, Alaska: Camping at the Rivers of Alaska's Interior

elcome to Nenana! A bustling town on the Tanana River, Nenana is 53 miles south of Fairbanks, and is compact, fun to visit, and steeped in history. This is where the Nenana River flows into the larger Tanana. Roughly translated, "Nenana" means "a good place to camp between two river," in Athabascan. Nenana is a lively town with a strong Native American community. It's an important port, providing vital barge services to remote riverside Alaskan communities. This is an easy town to get out of your car and take a walk. Be sure to stop first at the Nenana Valley Visitor Information Center, one of the finest in the state. It's right on the corner as you enter Nenana.
