Kenai, Alaska: A Bustling City, Kenai Peninsula's Largest
enai,
located 156 miles southwest of Anchorage, is a bustling
city with over 7,000 residents, the largest in the Kenai
Peninsula. There are a number of interesting attractions.
These include "Old Town," right behind the visitor's
center, which offers visitors a taste of the Russian influence
which remained even after the United States' purchase of
Alaska in 1867. Beluga whale watching is a popular pastime
from the Kenai River bluffs, near Old Town. The Kenai River
flats, just south of town, allow for viewing of snow geese,
sandhill cranes, caribou, loons and other animals. |
