Delta Junction, Alaska: Sullivan Roadhouse
he
Sullivan Roadhouse, a historical museum that was built in
1905 and was an important stop on the trail between Valdez
and Fairbanks, now exists because it wound up on Fort Greely,
near Delta. The soldiers took care of the building by adding
a metal roof. (Water entering a roof is responsible for
collapsing most of Alaska's historic log buildings.) The
Sullivan Roadhouse was renovated and moved by the Delta
Chamber of Commerce next to the visitor center. It has some
of the best easy-to-understand descriptions of pioneer life
anywhere. |
