When the Soviet
Union launched Sputnik in 1957, the federal government began
an early warning missile detection program.
Clear Air Force
Station (just a few miles from Anderson) became part of
that program, and Anderson became the town that housed the
construction workers and support personnel of the base
The site at Clear is still up and running -- it has just
gone through a $1.6 billion upgrade -- and Anderson continues
to thrive. |
